In an effort to boost maritime trade and strengthen port infrastructure, the Government of Mexico has announced the remodeling of Puerto Progreso, one of the most strategic terminals in the country. This ambitious project, which will start in 2025 under the leadership of President Claudia Sheinbaum, seeks to position the port as a key axis of international trade.
A deep-sea port with a global vision
Sheinbaum pointed out that the development will transform Puerto Progreso into a project capable of competing with other logistics hubs in Latin America. “We are finally going to make the Puerto Progreso deep-sea port a reality,” he said, explaining that the soil conditions of the region will require specialized machinery, which will extend the work for a period of three years.
The project will be a collaboration between the Federal Government and the State Government, marking a milestone in the modernization of Mexican port infrastructure.
Unprecedented expansion and modernization
The Secretary of the Navy, Raymundo Morales, explained that the plan contemplates the expansion of the port by 80 hectares, along with the expansion of the current 11 terminals. These improvements will significantly increase the capacity to receive goods and optimize the flow of trade with different countries. In addition, environmental impact studies are already underway, ensuring that the project is carried out with a sustainable and responsible approach.
The Mayan Train will connect with Puerto Progreso
As part of the comprehensive strategy, it is planned that an extension of the Maya Train will connect directly with Puerto Progreso. This connection will improve communication routes, facilitating not only the transport of goods, but also the access of investors and businessmen to the region. This logistics integration promises to position it as a key driver for the economic development of the Mexican southeast.
Economic and social benefits
The project will generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, boost regional trade and increase Mexico’s competitiveness in the global market. With a long-term vision, this remodeling seeks not only to benefit the industrial and commercial sectors, but also to promote the development of nearby communities by strengthening their local economy.
A project with a national impact
Although all the details have not yet been revealed, the government assures us that in the coming weeks those responsible and the specific guidelines for the execution of the project will be announced. This announcement underscores the priority that the Government of Mexico attaches to the modernization of strategic infrastructure, consolidating the country as a fundamental node in the continent’s trade routes.
Puerto Progreso will not only be a symbol of innovation and development, but also a gateway to new opportunities that will transform the economic landscape of Mexico.
