A leap in port activity
Located in the north of Peru, the Chancay Megaport is about to start operations, as the company responsible for its construction, Cosco Shipping Ports Chancay Peru, reports an advance of 45%, projecting its inauguration by December 2024.
This work represents an investment of approximately 1,315 million dollars in its first stage alone, and it is estimated that the total cost will amount to 3,500 million dollars. It is expected that the reception of more than 18 mega cargo ships at the Chancay Megaport will allow this investment to be recovered in the short term.
Route to the Asian continent
The Chancay Megaport is considered one of the most important developments for Peru, not only because of the estimated annual reception of one million containers, but also because of its potential to become the economic center of Latin America and a key trade route to the Asian continent.
The idea of building this megaproject was around for years, but it was only possible thanks to Chinese investment. It is expected that the port will initially have 4 mooring points, which could be expanded to 15 in the long term, of which the breakwaters are already visible. The Chancay Megaport will also include storage areas, parking, offices and customs.
Chancay Megaport and the New Silk Road
Given the relevance of this development, the Chancay Megaport has been registered in the so-called New Silk Road, which encompasses large infrastructure projects and massive investments, in addition, it is projected that this port will act as a trigger for the national economy, generating 1,300 direct jobs, to which another 5,000 would be added between direct and indirect when it comes into operation.
