MEDLOG, MSC’s logistics division, has started construction of a 27,034-square-meter state-of-the-art cold storage facility in Savannah, Georgia. This project will significantly increase the export capacity of poultry, pork, and beef from the United States Southeast and Midwest to markets in South America and Asia.

MEDLOG’s new facility will offer around 20,000 pallet positions of frozen and chilled products and will be able to process up to 1.36 million kilos of products by quick freezing each day. This will allow producers to send their raw products directly to the storage center for efficient freezing.

Economic and employment benefits of MEDLOG’s investment in Savannah

MEDLOG‘s investment in Georgia will bring great benefits to the Port of Savannah, which is the third busiest container terminal in the United States. Not only does this expansion represent a significant investment in the port’s future growth, but it is also expected to generate more than 100 new jobs in the region.

Fabio Santucci, President and CEO of MSC USA, commented: “This new investment in Georgia demonstrates MSC’s commitment to expanding the global reach of U.S. exporters and importers. We have designed this cold storage facility with specifications that will facilitate new business opportunities for companies located in the interior of the country, such as those in the Midwest. MSC has been supporting U.S. companies since 1985 and this new facility further strengthens our long-standing partnership.”

Innovation and sustainability in the MEDLOG project

MEDLOG’s cold storage center in Savannah is designed with a focus on sustainability, including a 1.5-megawatt solar panel system on its roof that will supply about 10% of the energy needed for its operation. In addition, it will be the first facility of its kind in the U.S. to earn BREEAM certification, a prestigious international sustainability accreditation that is an alternative to LEED certification.

The commitment to sustainable exports

MEDLOG’s new cold storage center in Savannah will not only increase the export capacity of meat products to South America and Asia, but also reflects a strong commitment to sustainability and innovation. This investment in Georgia, which is expected to be operational by mid-2025, highlights MEDLOG‘s commitment to local economic development and reducing the carbon footprint, benefiting both the industry and the environment. With this project, MEDLOG consolidates its position as a leader in logistics and exports worldwide.
